How It Works
How Halo Pay works
Your employer helps pay for nursery fees before tax — saving you thousands a year through Halo Pay.
Step by step
The full walkthrough
You sign up
Tell us about yourself, your employer, and your nursery. It takes a couple of minutes. If your employer is already a Halo partner, you're ready to go.
We talk to your employer
If your employer isn't on Halo yet, we'll approach them and explain how it works. Most employers say yes — it costs them nothing and their team loves it.
We onboard your nursery
Same for your nursery. If they're not already in the Halo network, we'll get them set up. Most nurseries are onboarded within a few days.
You set your contribution
Choose how much you'd like to contribute towards nursery fees through Halo Pay. Halo automatically checks you won't fall below the National Minimum Wage.
You start saving
Your employer adjusts payroll, your nursery gets paid, and you keep more of your money. It all happens automatically each month.
The numbers
Where do the savings come from?
Without Halo
With Halo Pay
Annual saving
£3,360
Example based on £35,000 salary and £1,000/month nursery fees at basic rate. Actual savings depend on individual circumstances.
Compliance
Built on established tax law
Halo is structured under the workplace nursery exemption (Section 318, ITEPA 2003), which allows employers to fund childcare in a way that is exempt from income tax and National Insurance — provided the employer participates in both financing and management of the nursery place.
An independent tax review of Halo's structure has been completed and documentation is available on request.
